2026 Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid

2026 Toyota Highlander

Seven distinct trims, gas or hybrid power and built for Canadian roads

The 2026 Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid are now available here in Canada, offering Canadian drivers a refined balance of comfort, capability and efficiency. Designed to bridge the gap between the smooth ride of a passenger car and the practicality of an SUV, the latest Highlander lineup delivers versatility for everyday commuting, family life, and weekend travel.

For 2026, Toyota offers the Highlander in 7 distinct configurations, split across gas and hybrid-electric powertrains. With a starting MSRP of $51,285, the lineup is built to give Canadians meaningful choice while maintaining Toyota’s long-standing reputation for quality, reliability and long-term value.

A refined design built on proven engineering

The 2026 Highlander showcases a bold, sculpted exterior that emphasizes both style and aerodynamic efficiency. Built on Toyota’s New Global Architecture platform, the SUV features a low, wide stance that not only enhances visual appeal but also improves stability, handling, fuel efficiency, and cabin quietness. The lower centre of gravity contributes to a confident, composed driving experience whether navigating city streets or highways.

Inside, the Highlander focuses on comfort, space, and adaptability. Buyers can choose between seven- or eight-passenger layouts, with easy access to all three rows. Eight-passenger models feature a second-row 60/40 split bench, while seven-passenger versions upgrade to captain’s chairs for added comfort. All models include a fold-flat third row, and with the rear seats folded, cargo capacity expands to an impressive 2,387 litres.

Gas and hybrid powertrains with standard all-wheel drive

Toyota continues its multi-pathway approach by offering both gas and hybrid Highlander models, all equipped with all-wheel drive.

Gas-powered Highlander models are available in four grades and use a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Output is rated at 265 horsepower and up to 309 lb-ft of torque, with stop and start technology helping improve efficiency. These models can tow up to 2,268 kg, or 5,000 pounds, and include Trailer Sway Control for added confidence. The XLE grade uses Dynamic Torque All-Wheel Drive, while XSE, Limited, and Platinum trims feature Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD with Drive Mode Select and driveline disconnect.

Highlander Hybrid models are offered in three grades and feature Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system. This setup combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with two electric motor-generators and an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. Total system output is 243 horsepower, with an impressive combined fuel efficiency rating of 6.7 L per 100 kilometres. Towing capacity is rated at 1,588 kg, or 3,500 pounds. Hybrid models use an electronic on-demand AWD system with a rear-mounted electric motor that engages when additional traction is needed.

Technology designed around the driver

Every 2026 Highlander includes Toyota Multimedia, delivering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility along with Toyota’s latest interface. The system supports touch, voice, and familiar smartphone-style gestures, making it intuitive to use. Standard technology across the lineup also includes a seven-inch multi-information display and Smart Key with push-button start.

Safety remains a core focus. All Highlander models are equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, Toyota Star Safety System, a backup camera, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, tire pressure monitoring with auto-location, an anti-theft system, and eight airbags.
